Katie Marcus, was a native of Tennessee, graduated from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she received a Master of Music degree in instrumental music education. While earning her Master’s degree, she worked for the University of Tennessee, Knoxville Symphony Orchestra and Knox County School System to developan orchestra program with fifth-grade students in the Farragut and Cedar Bluff Intermediate Schools. Katie has been associated with the Knoxville Symphony Youth Orchestra Association for ten years. During this time she served as a rehearsal assistant and associate KSYO Summer Orchestra Camp leader. She is currently the conductor of the Philharmonia Youth Symphony.

After earning her degree, Katie taught orchestra and choir to seventh and eighth grade students at Maryville Middle School in Maryville, Tennessee for three years. She presented instructional seminars entitled “Being prepared as a First Year Teacher” at a University of Tennessee, Knoxville, CMENC meeting and “Bows and Arrows: Managing Student Behavior in Orchestral Rehearsals” at the annual TMEA meeting in Nashville, Tennessee in 2005. She is a member of MENC, ETSBOA, ASTA and the Suzuki Association of America.
